the icarus
a minstrel-class pleasure yacht, the icarus operates a luxury charter business, allowing the wealthy and elite an opportunity to sail through the stars to any planet in the pengali system while simultaneously providing legitimizing cover for a burgeoning narcotic trade.
history
Purchased at auction in 2657 by Rinta Voide after years of saving and a stroke of luck with a silent investor The Icarus came as a total junker. The former pleasure cruiser of a wealthy Babylon businessman, The Icarus had once been the height of luxury in it's class (branded originally as The Gatsby). However, by the time Rinta found it up for auction, it had been stripped of most of it's finery. Investigated for fraud, the businessman's assets were all seized, and by the time most made it to auction, anything extra of value had been pulled free to sell elsewhere.

Even stripped, Rinta could see the opportunity in The Icarus and took the plunge on a deal too good to pass up. The yacht, unique in it's design for longer haul voyages, was poised to allow trips throughout the Pengali system and occasionally beyond the gateway to start spreading the drug Frisson past Terminus.

Immediately after purchasing it Rinta began reconstruction with any help he could muster, refurbishing the ship to it's former glory.. or as close as they could get it for now. Through hard work, plenty of shocks, and a lot of elbow grease, The Icarus was returned to it's former glory. Planning to offer luxury charters, party cruises and other activities to conceal his own less legitimate narcotics empire, Rinta hired a stand in Captain in November 2657 to be the face of The Icarus and began to advertise for a cruise like no other departing from Terminus among the stars.

DESCRIPTION & DESIGN
A Minstrel-Class Space Yacht, The Icarus is surprisingly fast for what was originally just a pleasure vessel. Once the height of class and luxury, it's grown to be a bit dated in it's appearance, but retains it's space worthiness. Once primarily used for a wealthy business executives' long trips away with friends, The Icarus boasts several guest cabins, and a large open atrium with a bar on the top deck for passengers to mingle with one another while enjoying the vastness of space.

Outfitted with concealed turret-mounted light turbolasers, and medium ion cannons in case of emergency, The Icarus possesses state of the art shielding technologies for the safety of their passengers, of course. The Icarus has been retrofitted and modernized for the current year and clientele, boasting a Class 2 hyperdrive, just in case you want to get to your destination a little faster.

the crew & heirarchy
the captain (NPC) Harlan Forgrave, the charismatic face of The Icarus. A genial, flamboyant man who always pours a bit too heavy and has never truly captained a ship in his life, Harlan keeps the fun going aboard The Icarus and makes sure the guests for their charters have everything they need day to day! Hired by Rinta, Harlan has no idea what is being smuggled aboard what he affectionately calls his ship, much to Rinta's chagrin.
face of eugene levy
the AI (NPC) The Holo Enhanced Lifestyle Intelligence Operating System or H.E.L.I.O.S. is the manifestation of the non-sentient brain of The Icarus. Purchased by Rinta and installed in late December, this friendly face delivers daily news, weather updates and cruise information to passengers. Very quickly the AI has shown signs of intelligent learning and adaption based on guest & crew interaction.

THE PILOT
FRONT-FACING The pilot of The Icarus, expected to know it inside and out and ready to pilot it well and come out on the other side unscathed.. even in the most hairy situations. He works closely with both the CONCIERGE and the ENGINEER to keep the ship both on a steady, safe course whenever possible and to maintain the space-worthiness of the craft. BEHIND THE SCENES Partnered with the CONCIERGE, the pilot helps to plan out trips and missions depending on the necessity of each destination, and helps with the maintenance of the business behind the scenes.
THE CONCIERGE
FRONT-FACING The co-owner of The Icarus, and the so-called brains of the operation. The Concierge is the liaison between guests and the crew during the booking process, and is who plans the schedule of trips and cruises across the Pengali system. The Concierge is the point person that the Purser, BARTENDER and MEDIC directly report to. BEHIND THE SCENES Trips are planned around chartered cruises, and shipments are distributed according to where in the system they might be going on any given charter. The Concierge plans out these shipments and effectively schedules drop-offs so men on the ground aren't without stock for long.
THE ENGINEER FRONT-FACING In charge of the electric and mechanical operations of The Icarus, the engineer spends most of their time on the bridge with the PILOT monitoring the ship and heading to the engine room when necessary. Like the PILOT they know the ship inside and out, and know what systems to push when if a quick escape is needed. THE PURSER
FRONT-FACING Working closely with THE CONCIERGE to ensure guest happiness, the Purser is responsible for charter guest happiness aboard The Icarus. They keep inventory, purchasing and provisioning, accounting and an updated roster of all guests, incuding food preferences, allergies and other essential knowledge tidbits and keep The Icarus running at the height of luxury with the two ATTENDANTS underneath them. BEHIND THE SCENES The broker of many deals, the Purser acts as as the CONCIERGE's voice more often than not and is the right-hand wo/man and sometimes bodyguard to Rinta.
THE PR
FRONT-FACING The real face of The Icarus, the PR person is responsible for all things communication and publicity. Advertising, social media updates, client relations, planning, all of these things fall under the jurisdiction of the PR person's responsibilities. BEHIND THE SCENES Working closely with the CONCIERGE to plan effective trips and stable cover for missions where extra finesse is required, the PR person works to spin stories favorably and make sure no cruise can come under scrutiny.
THE MEDIC FRONT-FACING Responsible for the health of the crew members and any guests on board, the medic is ideally trained in emergency and some trauma medicine and is ready to respond to anything from simple space sickness to blaster wounds.

THE ATTENDANTS
FRONT-FACING At the beck and call of any charter guests, the Attendants are directly responsible for guests' needs aboard The Icarus. Servers, cleaners, you name it. BEHIND THE SCENES Jack of all trades type boat hands, when on planets the Attendants follow the Concierge's direction, and often move stock, deliver correspondence, and provide additional security.
THE BARTENDER
FRONT-FACING A skilled drink mixer and professional schmoozer, the bartender keeps guests occupied, happy and full of liquor aboard their cruise without going overboard. BEHIND THE SCENES Working closely with THE CONCIERGE to strategize and coordinate with contacts on planets in the Pengali system and maintaining good relationships with buyers.
THE CHEF
FRONT-FACING The professional chef aboard The Icarus, creating meals for both the guests and crew according to dietary restrictions and preferences. The Chef is able to take local flavor from destination planets and create new and exciting dishes to keep the guests thrilled. BEHIND THE SCENES Proficient with guns, knives and other weapons, and unafraid to use them, they are often the first point of contact on any new planet or in any new city, alongisde THE CONCIERGE.

WHAT THE ICARUS DOES
charter cruises Pleasure cruises, a glorified (and overly expensive) taxi service, birthday parties, The Icarus can handle whatever you can throw at it in style. Equipped to host several guests, and stocked well for both food and liquor, the crew of the Icarus is on hand to facilitate a luxury atmosphere while shepherding their guests to whatever planet they fancy. Yes, often they're a party ship!

drug smuggling Under the playful guise of the unaware elite, the Icarus has begun to smuggle the drug FRISSON from Terminus and to the rest of Pengali.

SHIP LAYOUT
DECK 01
The Bridge Towards the front of the ship, the bridge is the brain for operation of The Icarus. This is where the pilot and concierge spend most of their time.
Off limits to charter passengers.

the atrium A large communal space with a reinforced glass ceiling on the top deck. This is also where the bar is located and where charter guests spend a lot of their time.

DECK 02
Guest Cabins The Icarus is outfitted with 4 comfortable cabins that each sleep two, and includes an island berth that features an oversized imperial gelcore mattress along with two berth end tables. It is constructed from a specially selected stock of galung wood, which is known for its natural luster.

The pool A pool? In space? On a yacht like this, you bet your ass. Located just under the Atrium on the second deck.

Secret Compartments The Icarus has been retrofitted with specialized partitions all throughout for the secretive storage of contraband. These seamless compartments are nearly impossible to spot at first glance.
DECK 03
Crew Quarters Sparse but comfortable cabins, these quarters are meant for long haul voyages in tight quarters. Each crew member gets a very small cabin to themselves, but at least they get some privacy. Washrooms are located at the end of the hall.

KITCHEN / crew area A state of the art kitchen, allowing for meal preparation for both charter guests and crew members. This is also the communal hang-out space for the crew, especially to get away from charter guests.

Med Bay A small but efficient med bay with 3 available beds, outfitted with basic and advanced medical necessities for the guests and crew of The Icarus.

Loading / Cargo Storage Located at the bottom of the ship, there is a small loading bay that descends from the hull and storage room for shipment missions and getting aboard The Icarus.

Secure Room A secured, locked room for the storage of charter guest's valuables at their request and also a small armory. Just in case.

hiring process & employment
Hiring for The Icarus is done mostly based on recommendation and connections, considering the delicate nature of the missions they go on and the content of their cargo. A connection to Rinta is essential. In some instances a new hire might be less clued in to the true nature of things going on, but eventually the entire crew (aside from the Captain) would be "in on it".

Thanks to the dual nature of the ship itself, most of the crew are hired for their ability to play a dual role depending on the mission at hand. Whilst they may need to be chatting up the chartered guests on their cruise, once planet-side the crew needs to be ready to take on all that comes with the territory of working within an illegal narcotic trade.

Payment comes by way of legitimate charters (and their tips for good service!), as well as the semi-routine narcotic smuggling jobs that are set up by Rinta to distribute Frisson. Charters are split equally amongst the crew, and meals are provided for the length of missions. If a delivery of Frisson goes well, each crew member (sans the Captain) gets a cut relative to their position on the ship. The bigger the delivery, the bigger the take, the better the pay.
